Kuala Tanjung, 7 April 2026 – The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China conducted an official visit to the Kuala Tanjung Industrial Zone in North Sumatra as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and explore strategic cooperation opportunities in the port and industrial zone sectors.
This visit included a direct inspection of the Kuala Tanjung Port managed by PT Prima Multi Terminal and the Kuala Tanjung Industrial Zone under the management of PT Prima Pengembangan Kawasan. These two entities are part of the Pelindo Group, which plays a role in developing the integrated logistics and industrial ecosystem in the region. The delegation from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China was led by Huang He as Consul General, accompanied by Li Hongwei as Consul, and Jiang Jiawen as Vice Consul.
The visit was also attended by Sutanto as Acting Director of PT Prima Pengembangan Kawasan and his staff, Wahyudi MH as Director of Operations and Engineering of PT Prima Multi Terminal and his staff, and Indri Gunawan as GM of Pelindo I Kuala Tanjung Branch. Additionally, local government representatives were present, namely Antoni Ritonga as Head of the Labor, Industry, and Trade Office of Batu Bara Regency; Murdi Simangungsong as Head of the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Office of Batu Bara Regency; and Hardiman Sihombing as Head of the Economy and Development Section of the Batu Bara Regency Regional Secretariat.
During the series of activities, the group received a comprehensive presentation regarding the development of Port infrastructure, the readiness of logistics support facilities, and the development plan for the Kuala Tanjung Industrial Zone, which is integrated with national and global supply chain systems. Furthermore, an interactive discussion session was held to discuss investment collaboration opportunities, the potential for export-based industrial development, and synergy in supporting the improvement of international trade connectivity.
On that occasion, Huang He conveyed that Kuala Tanjung holds a strategic position on the global trade map, particularly in the Southeast Asian region. “We see great potential for Kuala Tanjung as an integrated logistics and industrial hub. The continuously developing infrastructure is an attraction for Chinese investors to explore further cooperation in this area,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sutanto stated that this visit is an important momentum in strengthening international investor confidence in the Kuala Tanjung Industrial Zone. “We remain committed to developing an industrial zone that is competitive, integrated, and sustainable. This visit is expected to open new investment opportunities that provide added value for both national and regional economic growth,” he expressed.
From the port operational side, Wahyudi MH emphasized the readiness of Kuala Tanjung Port in supporting global logistics flows. “We continue to improve the capacity and service quality of Kuala Tanjung Port to support national logistics efficiency. We are optimistic that cooperation with international partners will further strengthen the position of this port as one of the main gateways for international trade,” he explained.
Echoing this sentiment, Indri Gunawan added that the development of the Kuala Tanjung area has a significant impact on regional economic growth. “The development of the port and Industrial Zone in Kuala Tanjung is expected to drive increased investment, create jobs, and strengthen regional economic competitiveness,” he noted.
This visit is expected to be a starting step in building more concrete cooperation between Indonesia and China, especially in the development of integrated industrial and logistics zones. With the support of various parties, Kuala Tanjung is expected to develop into one of the new economic growth centers with global competitiveness.
